Managing Editor Position for Northwest Science

We are soliciting applications for managing editor for Northwest Science.  

The Northwest Scientific Association invites applications for Managing Editor of its quarterly journal, Northwest Science. The Managing Editor is paid $2,000 per issue, which generally includes 6-8 articles, 1-3 notes, 1-2 book reviews, and occasional announcements, and which ranges across all aspects of natural history in the northwestern United States and western Canada.

New Editor-in-Chief for Northwest Science

Welcome to Lucy Kerhoulas, the incoming editor-in-chief for Northwest Science. Lucy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Forestry & Wildland Resources at Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata, CA, where she runs the Forest Physiology Lab. Look forward to exciting new announcements and future developments in our journal!

NWSA Webmaster position, apply by April 3rd

Working under the direction of the Northwest Scientific Association (NWSA) Board, the Webmaster designs, posts, and maintains relevant and timely information on the website that is of interest to our membership, including the Annual Meeting (conference), Student Grants, Awards, and other activities.  The NWSA website is powered by Wild Apricot, which defines the capabilities of our website.  Wild Apricot integrates membership management, conference registration, electronic mail, and website building software and provides templates, tools, and technical support.  Web-programming and computer language skills are not necessary for this position.  Web page maintenance is currently run by NWSA President Daniel Gavin, who is available to help train and support the incoming Webmaster, as needed for one year. 

Abstract deadline extended and remote attendance registration rate

We have extended the abstract deadline to midnight, March 1st!

The meeting will be hybrid: remote attendance is possible. We now have a lower registration rate for those attending purely remotely. 

Call for applications, Chief Editor of the journal Northwest Science

The Northwest Scientific Association seeks a Chief Editor for Northwest Science, as a paid position at $2,500 per quarterly issue (and occasional special issue). Applications are due March 10th.

Registration open for the 2023 Meeting

Registration is now open for the 2023 annual meeting of NWSA and AAAS-PD.  See the meeting web pages for lots of updated information.  Only $50 student registration, and $145 for members, which includes an evening social and two poster sessions, five plenary speakers, and fantastic workshops and field trip options.  We are accepting papers across of the sciences and intersection of disciplines.  We have 20-minute time slots for oral presentations and space for several dozen posters, presented on two afternoons. We are looking forward to seeing you at our first in-person meeting in several years.

The Northwest Scientific Association (NWSA) annually awards grants of up to $750 for undergraduate (BA/BS) and up to $1,500 for graduate (MA/MS or PhD) proposals to support student research in the pure and applied sciences in natural resources or related fields.

Northwest Science Journal Editor position

The Northwest Scientific Association is recruiting applications for the position of Chief Editor of Northwest Science. Northwest Science is a quarterly journal publishing scientific studies representing natural and physical science research conducted in the Pacific Northwest, including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, western Montana, northern California, and western Canada. Northwest Science has been in continuous publication since 1927 and provides an important outlet for scientific work relevant to the Pacific Northwest.

2023 Annual Meeting planning underway

Save the date! The 2023 Annual Meeting will be held at Western Washington University on March 21-24. Workshops and the evening social event will be March 21, the plenaries and special and contributed sessions on March 22 & 23, and field trips on March 24.  The local host committee is co-chaired by Jon Riedel and Leo Bodensteiner.
