Plenary talks at NWSA 2025

Crater Lake, formed by the eruption of Mount Mazama more than 7,000 years ago, is among the most iconic landmarks in the Pacific Northwest, a region that is not short of spectacular scenery. Most of us have visited Crater Lake National Park and glanced at the informational signage describing the Park's geological past, but how many of us have taken the time to dig into the vulcanology behind the stunning visuals in more detail?

If you have registered for the 2025 NWSA Annual Meeting, you'll be treated to an absorbing account of the history of this geological wonder, given by one of the Pacific Northwest's foremost experts on vulcanology. Dr Katharine Cashman, Research Professor in Vulcanology at the University of Oregon opens NWSA 2025 with her talk, "The Onset and Impacts of the c.7700 ybp eruption of Mount Mazama (Crater Lake), OR".
